Product Description

UltraLife ASTM D395 Method B (T2) Compression Set Fixture (CCSI-D395-B-T2)

This fixture is configured for ASTM D395 Method B (constant deflection) using Type 2 specimen geometry, priced above the T1-only fixture and below the combined T1/T2 unit — consistent with a single-cavity-type fixture sitting between a lower-cost single configuration and a higher-cost dual-configuration unit. It also supports ASTM D1229 low-temperature compression set testing, same as the rest of the D395 Method B line.

Construction follows CCSi’s standard UltraLife approach: A2 tool steel, precision ground and CNC machined, chrome plated, with extra-thick plates to resist warping and allow future restoration. The 0.625″ Grade 5 bolts and oversized washers spread clamping force evenly to prevent plate flex during the constant-deflection hold, with zinc-plated hardware throughout for corrosion resistance.

Each unit ships individually serialized with D395 certification, NIST traceability, and ISO/IEC 17025 compliance. If your lab runs both Type 1 and Type 2 specimens and would rather not swap fixtures between them, the T1/T2 combined fixture handles both in one unit.

UltraLife ASTM D395 Method B Compression Set Fixture: Quality Manufacturing Fill 118 Copy 1 Created with Sketch.

UltraLife ASTM D395 Method B Compression Set Fixtures are manufactured from homogenous, solid, high carbon content A2 tool steel. Each undergoes precision grinding and CNC machining to exacting requirements, after which the plates and spacers are industrial chrome plated.

Precision grinding ensures a parallel surface profile of the plates and meets the minimum surface finish requirements, while CNC machining provides ultra-close dimensional tolerances. The quality of materials, design, and engineering serve to provide the highest quality test outcomes possible, over an extended service life.

The plates are thicker than standard fixtures, withstanding the deleterious effects of exposure to elevated and subnormal temperatures. This also accommodates later restoration, adding yet further to the fixture’s cost effectiveness.

The connecting bolts are 0.625 inches (15.875 mm) in diameter and of Grade 5 quality, resisting distortion from over tightening. The heavy duty, over-sized washers evenly distribute the force applied to the hexagonal bolts and nuts over a larger area… virtually eliminating plate flexing. All connectors are plated with anti-corrosive zinc.

UltraLife ASTM D395 Method B Compression Set Fixtures are individually serialized and include a certification to ASTM D395, traceable to NIST, and compliance with ISO/IEC 17025.
